While Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has attempted to stake out a claim as a truly independent candidate, his choice for vice president, Nicole Shanahan, casts a shadow over that narrative with her deep ties to the Democratic establishment.

Shanahan’s political affiliations are hardly neutral; in fact, they paint a picture of unwavering support for Democrats, including none other than Joe Biden himself. Federal Election Commission (FEC) records reveal that Shanahan contributed a hefty sum of $30,000 to Biden’s campaign coffers in 2020. Moreover, her donations to ActBlue, the Democrats’ fundraising powerhouse, and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) further underscore her partisan leanings.

According to the New York Times:

Ms. Shanahan, who was once married to the Google co-founder Sergey Brin, has a history of making donations to Democratic campaigns, including to President Biden’s 2020 run. But she gave to Mr. Kennedy’s presidential campaign in May 2023, when he was running as a Democrat.

Delving deeper into Shanahan’s record unveils her advocacy for far-left “criminal justice” initiatives. Notably, she emerged as a major donor for Measure J in Los Angeles County, a measure redirecting a portion of local revenue towards community development and alternatives to incarceration while curbing funding for law enforcement agencies—a move that aligns squarely with progressive priorities.

In a revealing interview with San Francisco Magazine, Shanahan expressed her belief that the presence of a mental health professional during George Floyd’s arrest might have altered the outcome—an assertion steeped in the rhetoric of left-wing criminal justice reform.

San Francisco Magazine put it this way:

Another important area of investment—criminal justice reform—is one that Shanahan has been devoted to for years, long before the Black Lives Matter movement. “I remember telling Sergey’s foundation head about five years ago that criminal justice reform was going to be one of the biggest topics of our generation,” she says. “I’m happy that I could be a major donor for Measure J in Los Angeles County, which was voted in and will be rerouting some of the law enforcement budget toward mental and social support services.” Shanahan notes that having a mental health professional on the scene of George Floyd’s arrest would have de-escalated the situation and possibly saved his life.

Conservative commentator Charlie Kirk didn’t mince words, highlighting Shanahan’s six-figure contributions to George Gascon, the Soros-backed prosecutor infamous for his leniency towards criminals. Kirk framed her selection as a calculated move by RFK Jr. to bolster his progressive credentials, a move that raises eyebrows among commonsense independents and centrist voters concerned about the surge in crime.

As RFK Jr. gears up to formally announce his vice presidential pick, the looming specter of Shanahan’s partisan past looms large, potentially undercutting his claims of independence and centrist appeal.

Stock up for Long Term Survival

Meanwhile, polling data suggests that RFK Jr.’s presence in the race is inadvertently boosting former President Donald Trump’s prospects rather than aiding Biden—a trend that could have significant implications in key swing states come Election Day.
