John Earle Sullivan, known for his inflammatory rhetoric at a Black Lives Matter rally in DC, has been handed a six-year sentence after facing charges of felony obstruction of an official proceeding and civil disorder.

Prosecutors alleged that Sullivan actively sought to stoke violence and chaos during the Capitol protests on January 6th, aiming to disrupt the democratic process. In court, he admitted to using his megaphone to escalate tensions, proudly declaring, “I brought my megaphone to instigate sh*t.”

Sullivan’s involvement in the BLM movement adds another layer to his activist persona. At a 2020 BLM rally in DC, he openly called for a revolution, expressing a desire to forcibly remove Trump from office. He disavows support for Trump, positioning himself as an “antiestablishment” figure aligned with BLM’s cause.

His track record reveals a history of legal trouble, with convictions on multiple counts including obstruction of an official proceeding, civil disorder, and unlawfully entering restricted areas during the Capitol riot.

Sullivan’s affiliations extend beyond mere activism; he claims membership in the Salt Lake City-based extremist group Insurgence USA, which he joined to combat what he perceives as a threat from “white militia” groups in the area.
