WINDER, Ga.

A suspect has been apprehended following a shooting with several victims at Apalachee High School in Barrow County, Georgia.

According to the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office, emergency responders arrived at the location at approximately 10:20 a.m. on Wednesday after receiving reports of an active shooter incident.

“While casualties have been reported, the sheriff’s office has not yet provided details on the number of victims or their conditions,” the statement said.

The school was placed on a strict lockdown following reports of gunfire. Local news helicopters observed at least six ambulances at the scene and at least one medical helicopter transporting a patient. It appears that students have been moved to the school’s football stadium for safety.

According to CNN, a nearby hospital is treating patients who have sustained gunshot wounds from the incident.

“I have mobilized all available state resources to address the situation at Apalachee High School and encourage Georgians to join my family in praying for the safety of everyone in our schools, both in Barrow County and throughout the state,” Georgia Governor Brian Kemp said in a statement on his X account. “We will keep collaborating with local, state, and federal partners as we gather more information and respond to the incident.”
