Kim Foxx, the Cook County State’s Attorney, reportedly faced an assault near her residence in Chicago over the weekend. According to court documents, William Swetz, 34, has been charged with aggravated assault with a motor vehicle and aggravated battery in a public place, as reported by Fox 32.
The incident allegedly involved Swetz shouting an insult at Foxx and nearly hitting her with his vehicle as he drove past. Foxx reportedly responded with a hand gesture, prompting Swetz to reverse his vehicle and throw a drink at Foxx, hitting her in the face.
Swetz was apprehended shortly after the incident but has since been released. Fortunately, Foxx did not sustain any injuries during the altercation.
The incident occurred just over a month after Foxx announced her decision not to seek re-election, marking the end of a controversial tenure in public office. Foxx assumed the role of state’s attorney for Cook County, Illinois, in 2016 and has faced significant criticism for her lenient enforcement policies, notably in her handling of the Jussie Smollett case.
The prosecutor sparked widespread outcry when she decided to drop charges against Jussie Smollett, a Black and gay actor who orchestrated a fake “hate crime” incident. Smollett had falsely claimed that two White individuals attacked him in Chicago, shouting “This is MAGA country,” placing a rope around his neck, and pouring bleach on him.
Foxx gained substantial support when she took office, with billionaire George Soros contributing $400,000 to her 2016 campaign. Soros continued his support by donating $2 million to a fund backing Foxx during the 2020 election. Soros has backed dozens of far-left prosecutor candidates, with Foxx among the most well-known.
Candidates backed by Soros generally advocate for lenient enforcement policies, oppose cash bail, and support “restorative justice” initiatives, which often involve diverting young offenders from the adult criminal justice system. This approach typically includes avoiding charging minors as adults.
