CNN legal analysts suggest that the jury’s request to review testimony regarding the August 2015 meeting at Trump Tower serves as a logical starting point for their deliberations.
During this meeting, prosecutors allege that David Pecker, Donald Trump, and Michael Cohen were all in attendance. It marks the occasion when Pecker purportedly agreed to serve as the “eyes and ears” for Trump’s campaign, tasked with identifying and alerting Cohen to any adverse news stories.
“This is right down the middle of where you want them to be and if you track the closing argument that we heard from the DA, (Joshua) Steinglass yesterday, he cast that Trump Tower meeting August 2015 as chapter one of this whole story. That’s where it all started,” CNN senior legal analyst Elie Honig said.
“It’s a perfectly natural, logical place for the jury to start,” he emphasized.
The jury has been deliberating for over four hours since receiving the case on Wednesday morning.
According to CNN legal analyst Elliot Williams, the jury’s requests likely indicate their focus on understanding Trump’s intent. They are likely attempting to discern the nature of the discussions between Pecker, Trump, and Cohen, and whether Trump was aware that he was directing or participating in a scheme, Williams suggested.
The defense had previously contended that the hush money payment to Stormy Daniels was orchestrated solely by Cohen, while the prosecution has sought to demonstrate that Trump was fully aware of the situation throughout.
