President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris embarked on a nationwide initiative to rally Black voters during a campaign event in Philadelphia. Named Black Voters for Biden-Harris, this effort comes amidst recent polls showing a decline in support for the president among Black adults compared to four years ago.
Addressing the audience at Girard College, a school primarily attended by Black students, Biden emphasized the importance of truth in politics, highlighting promises made and fulfilled by his administration.
Accompanied by Harris, the first woman and first Black American vice president, they highlighted their administration’s focus on healthcare, addressing student loan debt, and enacting gun safety measures.
Harris acknowledged the pivotal role Black voters played in securing their victory in 2020, both in Philadelphia and across the nation. The event attracted Black students, business owners, advocacy groups, and politicians, underscoring the significance of Black voters in effecting change.
Despite Biden’s overall support among Black voters remaining high, recent polls indicate a decline from the levels seen in the previous election. Experts stress the importance of a strong turnout from Black voters, particularly in cities like Philadelphia, where a substantial Black population seeks relief from issues such as inflation.
Prior to Biden’s visit, the chair of the Republican Party of Pennsylvania criticized the President, stating, “If he wasn’t so hopelessly out of touch, Biden would recognize the toll his inflation is taking on Pennsylvania consumers, who can’t afford the same basic necessities they could before he became President.”
In response, Biden expressed confidence in the support of Black voters, asserting, “With your vote in 2024, we’re going to make sure Donald Trump will be a loser again.”
