Donald Trump will be speaking to the Libertarian National Convention tonight at 8 P.M. EST.  This will be the first time Trump has addressed the broad base of the Libertarian Party.  It is also the first time in history that a current Republican nominee for President is speaking at the LNC. 

The big question is how will libertarians perceive Trump’s speech and will he be able to convince them to support him in November. It’s not an easy task as many libertarians will complain about spending and other ideological positions that they feel both major parties do not represent them on.

Cliff Maloney, a republican strategist who exclusively works with America First and libertarian-leaning Republicans posted a powerful, yet simple way that he feels Trump can appeal to Libertarians.

Maloney recommends that Trump present a clear plan for how he will free Ross Ulbricht, Edward Snowden, and Julian Assange. He highlights these three because he says all libertarians support the efforts to pardon/drop their charges. And he feels it’s perfect for Trump because all three men, like Trump, have faced off against a corrupt uniparty swamp that’s politically targeted them. 

This type of bond over a hatred for the deep state could lead libertarians to go all in on Trump.

Marth Bueno, a former libertarian candidate in Florida, backed up Maloney by saying, “Libertarians want to hear about how Trump has experienced lawfare firsthand and the injustice of the justice system. We need to hear he will pardon Ross Ulbricht who is also a victim of corrupt judges and has served enough time in prison for his victimless crime. He will review the cases of all political prisoners. If I hear this tonight, I’ll do everything in my power to get him elected. That’s how important Ross being a free man is to me and to thousands of libertarians around America.”

Another politically sound reason for Trump to back Ross Ulbricht is the blockchain community. Ulbricht is currently serving a life sentence simply for creating the ecommerce site The Silk Road and he is loved by the entire cryptocurrency community.

Trump backing Ross could lead to major investments from the crypto community because they will see this as the only path to free a man who was unjustly locked up for life in prison.

And it helps Trump’s cause that Biden’s record on crypto has been abysmal.

As a MAGA Republican with significant Libertarian leanings, I feel that Donald Trump has a significant opportunity to make an impact with a substantial crowd of freedom loving, politically engaged activists.  Trump showcasing the weaponization of government against him, alongside support for three champions of the libertarian movement, has the potential to resonate well tonight.

And if Trump pulls off moving Libertarians in his direction, it will significantly improve his chances of winning swing states where he lost by razor thin margins.

We will see how the crowd reacts to Trump’s message tonight.
