Jonathan Falwell, Chancellor of Liberty University and pastor of Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Virginia, reported a vibrant gathering of students and faculty for a sermon marking the semester’s end in April. During this event, attendees engaged in reading scripture and worshiping Christ for over two hours.

In his message, Falwell emphasized personal commitment to faith, advising students to “Own your faith.” He shared these insights on The Todd Starnes Show on NEWSMAX, where he highlighted Liberty’s weekly tradition of hosting a voluntary Wednesday night worship service. “It’s a time when our students can engage with the word of God through music and scripture,” Falwell said, mentioning that he delivered a 20-minute sermon from the book of 3 John, focusing on the joy of seeing one’s children walk in truth.

Liberty University hosts approximately 16,000 on-campus students, with an additional 100,000 enrolled online. Falwell contrasted the peaceful, purposeful atmosphere at Liberty with the unrest and protests often seen on secular campuses.

Post-worship, Falwell expressed his encouragement from seeing so many young people united in their mission to elevate the name of Jesus. He warned of the dangers of excluding God from public discourse and reiterated Liberty’s longstanding mission to “train champions for Christ,” urging students to embrace and understand their divine calling.

Falwell also noted that many parents choose Liberty for their children because of the troubling trends they observe at other modern college campuses and state schools. He mentioned his book “1000 Days: The Ministry of Christ,” linking his reflections to the broader impact of Liberty University, which boasts nearly 500,000 alumni worldwide.
