There’s a bunch of primaries today, 16 to be exact with 874 delegates at stake. Delegates are awarded in a variety of different ways from winner take all, winner take most, or proportional.
Former President Donald J. Trump currently leads former South Carolina Governor and former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley in the overall delegate count.

Trump has 273 delegates and Haley has just 43.
Trump has won all but one of the primary contests, with the only loss being Washington DC.
A candidate needs 1,215 delegates to secure the Republican Nomination.
After tonight, Trump is expected to have close to 1,000 delegates awarded leaving little room for Haley to secure the nomination.
Outgoing GOP Chair Ronna McDaniel has already conceded that Trump will win the nomination.

Lets take a closer look at each of tonight’s primaries:
Alabama: 29 delegates will be awarded on a winner take all basis. Polls close at 8pm EST.
For Republicans, the candidate who receives a majority of the statewide vote wins 29 at-large delegates. If no one wins a majority, candidates who surpass 20% of the vote divide those 29 delegates proportionally. Each of the seven congressional districts awards three delegates, either giving all of them to the candidate who wins a majority or, if no candidate reaches 50%, dividing them proportionally among candidates who surpass 20%.
