Did you catch the Temu commercials during the Super Bowl and wonder, “What the heck is that?” I’ve seen Temu popping up on Google while shopping online but dismissed it as some kind of scam. It turns out, Temu is like a Chinese Amazon, and thanks to their Super Bowl ads, I’m considering giving them a try. Investing 7 million bucks per ad (and they had three) seems excessive for a scam company just to rip me off.

However, those ads attracted more attention than just consumers. Suddenly, our friendly neighborhood politicians were on the airwaves warning about the dangers of Temu, accusing them of spying and relying on “slave labor.”

Arn’t we fortunate to have Washington looking out for our best interests? Unfortunately not. It appears Washington’s concerns are less about who manufactures goods and protects data and more about who writes checks to their PACs.

This scenario feels familiar, doesn’t it? First, we were warned about the “dangers of TikTok,” with calls to ban the popular social media app, despite the known harm that Instagram and Facebook intentionally inflict on America’s children.

Now, we’re being told Temu is a Chinese spy company run on slave labor, while domestic companies such as Nike and Apple allegedly use the same slave labor to produce many of the products they sell.

And spying? Come on! How many emails have you received about data breaches by American companies, even by the U.S. government? Not to mention the friendly spy balloon carelessly drifting from coast to coast unharmed. Clearly, spying is not their primary concern.

The reality is that companies like Facebook, Instagram, and Amazon donate millions to U.S. politicians, and now these companies are calling in their favors with their bought-and-paid-for political puppets in D.C., telling you that you must only support liberal American-hating companies engaging in the same practices they accuse TikTok and Temu of doing.

Do you think President Trump should have won the Nobel Peace Prize?

Thanks for the warning, Washington, but I’ll choose where I buy my products and what social media I consume, thank you.

Whether it’s billions to Ukraine, social media, warnings about Chinese retailers, vaccines, Russian space nukes, or fake news America is awake to Washington’s corruption and self-serving lies, and that’s something we’re not buying it anymore regardless on the Super Bowl ad.
