In the recent Nevada contest, Donald Trump faced off against an obscure opponent, with Nikki Haley sitting out due to a squabble between the party and the state over the electoral process.

Under these favorable circumstances, Trump clinched over 99% of the vote, putting him in line to scoop up all 26 delegates from Nevada. This substantial win propels him closer to the crucial 1,215 delegates required to secure the Republican nomination.

Speaking at a celebratory event in Las Vegas, Trump confidently declared, “If we secure victory in this state, November’s election is ours.”

The Nevada electoral scene was split into two ballots due to a clash between the state GOP and the Democratic-controlled legislature. The move to switch from a caucus to a more conventional primary stemmed from counting issues in 2020.

Nikki Haley, Trump’s lone serious adversary, chose to sidestep the Nevada caucus in favor of participating in the state’s primary vote. Alleging bias towards Trump, Haley’s team opted out of the caucus, focusing their efforts elsewhere. This strategic move backfired, leading to a resounding defeat against “none of these candidates” in the primary, further fueling calls for her to exit the race.

The convoluted process in Nevada sparked confusion and discontent among voters, resulting in diminished turnout for both races. Despite criticism from the state’s Republican governor, Trump’s victories in Nevada, Iowa, and New Hampshire, as well as in the US Virgin Islands, bolster his position as the frontrunner for the Republican nomination.

Meanwhile, Nikki Haley remains undeterred despite her setback in Nevada. Emphasizing the demand for an alternative to Trump, she vows to press on, championing the idea of an election over a coronation.
