You read the headline right, Mitt Romney’s niece, also known as Ronna Romney McDaniel is finally resigning from the head of the RNC.

The Chairwoman who has been hammered by Trump supporters, America First supporters, and countless others for not doing what she should to secure elections, grass roots movements, among other things.

McDaniel even went as far as to take credit for Conservative influencer and the hardest working grass roots man in the Republican Party Scott Presler’s work in Pennsylvania.

The embattled RNC Chair is reportedly gearing up to step down from her position. Amidst vocal calls from Donald Trump for changes within the RNC, the likely contender to replace her is Michael Watley, the current head of the North Carolina GOP.

According to reports from The New York Times, McDaniel informed Trump of her intentions to resign ahead of South Carolina’s Republican primary on February 24. This pivotal contest will feature Nikki Haley going head-to-head against Trump in her home state, necessitating an election for the new chairmanship.

McDaniel has faced mounting pressure for months to resign, especially following the failure to deliver the promised Republican surge in the 2022 elections. Recent revelations about excessive spending within the RNC have only intensified calls for her departure.

Earlier on Tuesday, McDaniel’s chief of staff also announced his resignation, citing the swirling rumors and the upcoming transition with the presumptive nominee. “I assure you, the RNC is in an incredibly strong position,” remarked Mike Reed, who will step down later this month.

These developments come on the heels of a meeting between Trump and McDaniel at Mar-a-Lago on Monday, where it was indicated that changes were on the horizon for the RNC. Trump signaled this shift in a post-meeting statement, announcing McDaniel’s new role and hinting at forthcoming recommendations for RNC growth following the South Carolina Primary.

Regarding McDaniel’s discussions with Trump, Reed commented, “We always knew there would be some changes once we had a presumptive nominee, and we welcome that.” He emphasized McDaniel’s ongoing leadership and readiness to seamlessly transition should Trump secure the nomination.

Watley emerges as a potential successor, having demonstrated staunch support for Trump since his departure from the White House in 2020. With a track record of delivering the state to Trump in the previous election, Watley’s role as general counsel at the RNC positions him as a key figure in shaping new voting laws within the organization.
