Donald Trump Jr. didn’t mince words when he took a swipe at Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), dubbing him a “mentally declining pro-amnesty turtle” in response to the introduction of a controversial border security bill.

“Why do Senate Republicans keep allowing themselves to be led by a mentally declining pro-amnesty turtle?” questioned Donald Trump Jr. over the weekend.

Trump Jr.’s fiery statement came as a reaction to the unveiling of the border security bill, which has faced backlash from Republicans who claim it falls short on addressing the southern border crisis. Prominent GOP figures like House Majority Leader Steve Scalise and House Speaker Mike Johnson have pledged to oppose the bill when it reaches the U.S. Senate.

Scalise was clear in his opposition, asserting, “Let me be clear: The Senate Border Bill will NOT receive a vote in the House. Here’s what the people pushing this ”˜deal’ aren’t telling you: It accepts 5,000 illegal immigrants a day and gives automatic work permits to asylum recipients a magnet for more illegal immigration.”

Johnson echoed this sentiment, stating, “I’ve seen enough. This bill is even worse than we expected, and won’t come close to ending the border catastrophe the President has created. As the lead Democrat negotiator proclaimed: Under this legislation, ”˜the border never closes.’ If this bill reaches the House, it will be dead on arrival.”

As previously reported by Breitbart News, while the bill does contain some elements related to border security, it also raises concerns among Republicans. It is coupled with a multi-billion-dollar appropriations bill intended to fund various resources for registering, releasing, transporting, and housing migrants in American coastal cities and inland communities.

While proponents pitch the bill as a “national security” measure, it faces opposition from Republican lawmakers who rely on grassroots support from constituents concerned about the challenges posed by unchecked migration, including issues related to the rule of law, economic impact, crime, overcrowding, and cultural changes.

Democrats, on the other hand, view the bill as a potential remedy for President Joe Biden’s declining poll numbers in the run-up to the 2024 election. Critics argue that the bill’s contents, as well as hidden provisions and potential loopholes, could result in government-funded incentives for undocumented immigration.

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) also dismissed the bill as an “absolute non-starter,” asserting that it would further encourage illegal border crossings. She highlighted House Republicans’ support for HR2 ”“ the Secure Our Border Act ”“ as a more effective solution that harkens back to the successful policies of the Trump administration, which led to the most secure border in U.S. history.
